Alla Prima ("at first attempt") is a direct painting technique where the work is completed in one session...wet paint on wet paint though here, acrylic is used as the underpainting and overlaid in oil.
This is a way for Alexander to create an original work more quickly,  with a more impressionistic feel, intentionally less detail, yet undeniably powerful.
